Georg Sojer – Finally, a way to make Dynafit Bindings weigh less!

by Lou Dawson February 16, 2007
written by Lou Dawson February 16, 2007

Ever wondered how to top Dynafit bindings in terms of less weight and more simplicity? Just eliminate your boots! Check out Georg Sojer’s cartoon. The caption reads something like ” The outstanding new Toe Tech binding won the a DISPO award for 2007, there is nothing lighter …” This is a riff on the name “Low Tech” by which the Dynafit binding is known in Europe, as well as a joke on the ISPO trade show design awards.

The burning question: Should I file this under “gear mods” or “Misc Gear Reviews?” Let Georg know what you think of his humor, comments on!

I’ve had ideas like that before:

dynafit type mounting points on my hips and shoulders for a backpack; on my heel for laceless climbing shoes; on my hips (could use the same ones as for the backpack) for hooking my pants up obviating the need for a belt; rare-earth magnets embedded in the bridge of my nose to hold on glasses/goggles.

I’d also replace one of my fingers with a multitool. Probable the ring finger on my left hand which has limited mobility anway.

My question is where do you hook your leashes on? They are required for some of the races.
I guess I’m not that dedicated to light weight skiing.

Spring skiing only, lest one’s feet become like Reinhold Messner’s.

Heh, I find that particularly amusing since we had a guy come into our shop (outdoor gear shop) saying his running shoes were too heavy to run on the treadmill with and was wondering if we had some kind of rubber-soled sock he could use instead 😉 He looked at us so strangely when we told him we thought nothing like that existed and that it was probably a bad idea to run on the treadmill with only socks…..

Actually Britt…Vibram makes the sock you speak of called…Five Fingers.

Some people also think that running barefoot is good for training…seriously!

That’s funny about the Five Fingers Steve! Still, he didn’t seem like the type to be asking for such a thing to run with on a treadmill. As far as running barefoot, I do know folks do that, but I’ll keep my running shoes on thank you very much! I don’t want to scare anyone away with my gross toenails!
