Emery A-LX 1990s Classic Ski Touring Binding Added to Collection

Emery classic A-LX binding with modern boot, in touring mode with heel lifter deployed.

Continuing my quest to get some level of improvement in the Wild Snow ski touring binding museum before winter, got the online page for the Emery A-LX done. This might have been the best Emery binding made before they quit doing ski touring bindings. The re-branded Look turntable heel is bomber, toe height adjustment obvious and clean, heel lifter elegant (if not fragile). Connector plate is composite with a bit of flex that might have helped “naturalize” your stride.

This shorter blog post is for comments. Full Emery A-LX museum display here.

Thanks Peter Stout for the donation of this backcountry skiing gear.

This was my first AT binding. Except for the forward pivot point, it was a great binding. A Silveretta Easy Go filled the void for the next few years before realizing the advantage of Dynafit. I even have a set of the compatible Emery ski crampons.

Hi Dave, thanks for commenting. The binding museum is fun to curate, but it would get old pretty quick without actual users like you stopping by. Do you still have your bindings? Hang them on the wall for memories! Lou

Hi Lou,
We downsized a couple of years ago and most of the older ski gear sadly went away. I did look through the toy maintenance bench over the weekend and found a pair of the Emery ski crampons. If you’re interested, I would like to donate them to your museum. Please let me know where to send if you have interest.

HI Dave, I should probably inject those into the collection, not that crampons for each binding are essential but it’s fun to have a few examples. I’ll email you. Thanks, Lou

Hey, thanks for helping me understand what I just found at Goodwill up here in Seattle. Slightly different colors (holler if you want a photo), but definitely the same Emery binding, mounted on a pair of 180cm Tua Excaliburs for $6.99! Hoping to get my kid’s alpine boot into these and go help him free his mind in the backcountry… :wink
