what a great race and positive event! we were there last year. Now wanting to visit Fernie and Fernie Alpine Resort to go ski touring as we only spent a day there for the event. Fernie is incredible and I can't wait to get back and try out the surrounding mountains for touring. Have been keeping track on snow and stories on http://www.skircr.com/matts-blog
also reviewing the CAA avalanche bulletin and other mountain weather sites to pick our time to visit

Hi Rick,
I can only comment based on my experiences mountain bike racing, but if you are interested just try it with the gear you have now. If you enjoy the activity and its atmosphere you will get better, and you will buy the gear you need. We just can't help ourselves.

Stan-
Ive read the results of a a few Rando- races and the times set are ridiculously fast. How could a person judge if he is fast enough to enter one of these with out buying a racing set up and doing it.
For example if you can hike x# of feet per hour with a normal AT set up on a packed trail then you should do OK.

thanks
