Skiing in the Elk Mountains.
After whipping up the souffle, Chris and his mates find some desert of their own somewhere out the back door of the Cookhouse.

Back before I found my calling, finding the right job (one with a ski and climbing culture) was always tough. Chris of the Pine Creek Cookhouse (12 miles south of Aspen in the middle of the Elk Mountains) just sent me this. I can vouch for the location, how much those guys really ski is something you might have to go find out, but I have a suspicion they have ways of making work only part of their day.

“Surounded by 13,000 and 14,000 ft peaks, The 10th Mountain Hut System, 35 miles of world class nordic trails and legendary dining is just what the doctor ordered for me!”, Says Chris Keating, Sous Chef at the Cookhouse. “It’s all about the outdoors. You can work at the Cookhouse and live the dream with us everyday!”

The Pine creek Cookhouse is open from Thanksgiving through April and again from June through September. I can vouch for the nearby skiing — I’ve spent 30 years trying to hit it all and still find new lines. More, it’s a cool place in the summer too, with mountain biking, jeeping, trail running and nearly everything other form of mountain recreation.
