Really nice on the back end as I got super tired of the lag while uploading photos and blog posts to the shared server environment. And on the surface, I should have pretty much 99.9 percent uptime, fewer glitches that wreck your comments, etc. Advantage for me is as a webmaster I've got some clients who's sites I can host on my server, and thus defray some of the cost. I had to get a pretty beefy/expensive server because of my traffic peaks. Lower traffic sites would usually do fine with VPS more in the $40 month range.
